Dragon Brummbar Mid Production

Post by Vincent Power »

This is another build that I started last year and failed to post or finish.
On the plus side, I'm working on it now and have reached the primer stage. I based the vehicle on a photo I found on the internet. I was intrigued by the short-track condition the vehicle was in and decided to replicate that feature.
The kit I purchased came with Cavalier Zimmerit however this set did not fit well and I wished I had bought the Dragon kit with Zimmerit molded on. :(

The poor result I got with the Cavalier Zimmerit was the main reason I put the build aside. Eventually, I picked up the ATAK set designed for this kit and got back into the build. The result was much better. :)

Then I mocked up the short track condition I saw in the photo. I used Modelkasten tracks rather than the Magic Tracks supplied in the kit.

That's where I am at the moment.

Cheers,
Vincent

Wonderful work Vincent, the damaged running gear instantly makes the vehicle all that more interesting :D

A shame about the Cavalier Zimmerit, but it seems the Atak set was well worth the investment :) Did you scratchbuild the final drive gears? Can we get a closeup?

Thanks Philipp. 😊

I like the short track look. As you say, it instantly shows there is something wrong with the vehicle.

Yes, the final drive is scratchbuilt but seeing it close up will only show how bad it looks  Maybe after I've painted it?

Vincent

Thanks Bryan. :)

I find coming back to a stalled build with a fresh look to be most satisfying. Sometimes the issues that stalled it in the first place are not as bad as they seemed. On the other hand, the rubbish bin is always an alternative solution.

The Brummbar has its base coat on and I've started with some chipping.

The photos are a bit washed out unfortunately. The Dunkelgelb is much stronger in real life than what it appears here.

Some camo has been applied and I've started some basic weathering as well. :)

.....and after a bit of work with the oils I have some weathering to show. :)
I used Abteilung oil paints, starting with Light Mud, then followed up with some Dark Mud around the suspension units. After I was happy with that, I speckled the same colours over the hull sides, finishing off with small amounts of Buff and Earth to add a little bit of interest.

The next step is to start adding the oils onto the upper hull areas.
Thanks for looking. :)

Weathering is looking very nice! I'm really liking the rust chipping on the hanger brackets. Its the little things. 8-)
