Zik-20
Here are a few CAD images of my progress on the ZIK-20 SPG.
An article about the development can be found here: ZIK-20 Assault Gun
The goal was to mount a 152mm gun into the hull of a KV-7 since that design path was a failure. It's an interesting design. Most of the ammo was stored in the floor and the fuel tanks in the front corners of the casemate. It has a crew of 6.
There are only a few drawings of the ZIK-20. Most of them don't match up to one another so I have had to adjust some of the features to line up. As far as I know, there is no top down drawing of the roof plate. The locations for the top hatch, vent, and rotating periscope, and fuel caps are interpreted from cross-sections. I added the periscope sketches where possible, added a second crew hatch and rear loading hatch.
I may not start the actual build on this for a long time but wanted to share some progress.

I've never heard of that one before
Quite an interesting design. Obviously the SU-152 didn't fall from the sky...

Re: Zik-20
I received my first printed parts for the Zik-20. These are printed on the Form2 3D printer using their dental resin which can print finer details. The downside is it's more brittle and more prone to warp from UV. I'm keeping them stored in a box in the closet until I can get some primer applied.
I'm super excited the barrel rifling printed. There is suppose to be a small gap around the recoil mechanism cover but it filled in on the print. I will need to carefully scribe this detail.

Stunning vehicle and splendid 3D printed parts. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun building this one.

Re: Zik-20
I just released the roof plate to be built. The sides will be make from styrene sheet. The rest will be just little details. The most difficult part may be dealing with Trumpeter's 15 year old kit.

Re: Zik-20
I’m extremely impressed with the 3D printing, the fact that the rifling in the barrel is so crisp is a real testament to how far this technology has come. How long before we all have our own printers!
I'm a serial kit starter....

Re: Zik-20
Thanks guys!
I think its going to be a while still before we will have a printer than can print this quality sitting on our work benches. You can find crude open source PLA filament printers for $400 and the results are not suitable for fine model work. I think the cheapest Form2 printer is - Printer $3500 + Cure Station $700 + Wash Station $500 + all the consumables.
