Re: KV-2
The color coat needs to be be very translucent. Add some clear to your paint start with 25% before you thin for airbrushing. You build up the color gradually with multiple passes.

Glad the weather is finally nice enough for you to paint. You are sure taking advantage of it.

Re: KV-2
Thanks Milan.
Here is the KV-2 with a coat of paint. So freehand modulation was used to help with the massive slab sides.

Re: KV-2
So I opted to go with the camo and markings from the reference photo after all. White wash created with AK Washable White. Needs a few little touch ups.

Re: KV-2
Thanks.
Philipp - Easy? Yes and No. It takes several layers to achieve an opaque enough finish. I think I have 4-5 layers on the turret sides. You have to work at it with a wet brush as soon as it is dry to the touch. Working in smaller areas is better. Don't paint the whole model and then try to manipulate it. Wait too long and it becomes harder to scrub off. It can also build up brush strokes so I went over the painted surface with an ultra-fine foam sanding sponge. A wet toothpick can also be used to rub on the paint for realistic scratches and pinpoint effects.
It's hard to argue with the results though. It looks like a worn-off sloppy white wash.
