I like the sand effect Philipp. It's very realistic. :)

Thanks again :)

The sand is just that, straight from a 1 kg bottle for various decorative purposes. It's fixed in place with quite a lot of white glue mixed with water and liquid soap. On top of that I rubbed some Mig "North African Desert Dust" pigments, which gives it a more natural colour and somehow makes the individual sand grains appear more true to scale.

I'm almost done with our gentleman adventurer, all he needs now are some touchups and his elephant gun. I'm serious. :P

Thank you Steve :D

I think I've finally figured out (haha :P ) a useful painting method, at least for brighter colours. On him and the BA-10 blokes I've started with a white primer layer and then built up colours with several very thin layers. Since the paint will gather in the recessed areas it automatically highlights the more exposed spots. It also helps with blending in other shades as long as it's still wet. Doesn't work quite as well for dark shades but it's probably just a matter of more trial and error.

By the way, I found this gem of forgotten history:
During the African campaigns of World War II in 1941, the Italians in East Africa faced the British. The Italian commander, the Duke of Aosta, gave his personal collection of elephant guns to his Italian soldiers to aid in armour penetration of British armoured cars, as Italian AT guns were in short supply.

Love it Philipp

An Italian Duke passing out the elephant guns, 8-)

I like your perspective on heads too, it is definitely getting results, for shadows it maybe easier with washes rather than painting?

Really thin washes 10% paint to 90% glaze or a Vallejo wash product reduced or even inks.

It is whatever you feel comfortable with and works with you and your set up.

I follow the Calvin Tan formula, which is exactly the opposite, black base coat which gives you the shades, but it is a very personal thing :?

I have spent 2 years getting to where I am, you are getting it sorted and the results speak for themselves ;)

Well done Philipp

Thanks again :)

While a good tutorial can definitely help, I'm very much a trial and error type modeller.

White seems a little easier as a base coat, unless you're doing a Panzer uniform or something similar.

The trousers for example are simply the white base with a single thin layer of brown on top.
