HobbyBoss Panzer 38
Here is my entry for the Panzer 38 and variants group build.
I don't think I could have been more been vanilla than building a straight Panzer 38 instead of one of the many much more interesting variants that are out there.
I saw this kit for 25 USD and once I learned that they are old Tristar kits, I went for it.
So far this kit has been a pleasure to build and the lower hull has gone together well.
Here is the box and the sprues in the plastic showing the kit unstarted.
Some nice directions
The lower hull pieces
Some construction (sorry for bad lighting)

Nice choice
These are definitely the best 38(t) kits out there.

Great choice Dennis
Good to see you back and back at the bench too
I am sure you will add plenty of sprinkles, sauce and chopped nuts to your "vanilla" build
Regards

Re: HobbyBoss Panzer 38
I have one side of track finished.
These tracks click together with little plastic pins but they are definitely not workable.
The longest run of links I could get together without falling apart was 40 links.
I ended up making much smaller runs as I found myself repeatedly trying to piece them back together.
I ended up gluing them all together and shaping them around the running gear similar to magic tracks.
So my conclusion for the tracks is that they are similar to magic tracks but you don't need double sided tape to get the run of track together.
They do have one advantage and in my opinion a big one, is that the spacing of the tracks is kept constant due to the pins.
I have put together magic tracks and had different number of links on each side depending on how much the track stretched or compressed during the forming.
The instructions said 93 links and that is how many there are.
Hope that answers your question Adam

Cheers Dennis,
Asking as I have some aftermarket workable tracks in the stash but have several 38t variants as well. If these tracks work out OK I'll leave the aftermarket ones for another buil

If I may throw in my experience, Tristar tracks are good, but don't expect them to hold without glue. Treat them as standard non-workable individual track links and you'll be much happier..

Re: HobbyBoss Panzer 38
I have the tracks on both sides now.
I usually wait until the end to put tracks on but I am going to be putting them on as soon as possible from now on.
If something is going to kill my desire to finish a project it is the tracks. So the sooner the better.
I did glue the track links together and the plastic is rather hard and did not take the glue very well. I had to repair the track about 5 times as links came apart with handling.
They are holding up good now.
