Markings are on - after quite a struggle with the protective paper, which was stuck to the decal sheet. "Thankfully" the only damage was to the registration number on the front plate, which should be fixable with some careful painting....or mud.




If they are anything like the decals from the Valentine the carrier film should disappear entirely with a second gloss coat.

I'm a bit at loss regarding the vinyl tracks - should I leave the rubber parts unpainted and just brush paint the metal components? Or would it be wise to prime the whole thing? If yes, with what? I had primer flaking off vinyl tires in the past...(yes, after cleaning them with soap water).

Philipp, I've had success with rubber tyres by misting a couple of light coats of Vallejo primer and letting each coat dry before adding another. Then I just painted them as normal. Flexing of the tracks is a problem though but maybe you could fix the tank to a base then complete the weathering of the tracks?

The only way I've managed to get vinyl tracks to behave was to scrub them with soap, water and a toothbrush then give them a quick buff with fine sandpaper to get a rough surface then a couple of coats of Tamiya grey primer. Still not perfect but a bit of creative weathering covers up the bits that flake off!

I might try Mig's "One Shot" primer, that stuff seems to bite fairly hard into any surface.

I gave the M24 a light oil wash last night, all that's left to do now is some nice red mud

And the figure, of course

When I built a AFV Club Centurion, I didn't prime the rubber tracks and years after the paint is still adhering. The new AFV tracks like the Tamiya ones behave well with acrylic paints.
I can't speak for enamel paints though.

I've kept myself busy with weathering....not sure if I should be happy with it, but I don't know what to change either Probably it's just the uncommon colour of the dust. Dien Bien Phu has a lovely red earth...



Painting the tracks directly without primer worked fairly well. I did a small test on a section and still need to finish the rest. The figure is next, not sure if I can manage a base until the deadline though.

Made a start on the machine gunner using the Mig colours I bought a while ago. Could be worse I think
