Trying to get some from Jaycar, but they may not ship to the UK

PE does generally beat plastic, but you do need to be realistic, sometimes there is a lot of effort for very little reward

PE, but only when it is an improvement

The storage units look cracking, and so much better than the kit plastic

Great improvement

Time to dig out my soldering kit too

So, nothing on TV last night. This meant uninterrupted workbench time so I completed the kit;









Sorry about the pics but was in a bit of a rush so took them with my phone.

For such a small kit it was a complex and fiddly build. Should get primer on tonight. The Caunter scheme is going to be a masking nightmare but if done right should look neat!

Nice soldering work there Adam. I need to get me some of those heat sinks and Wilder liquid flux. My solder paste has had it as well.

You've just have to love the 30s tech-level lights at the start of the war... tinytinytiny little things we hardly consider worth mentioning when defining "tanks" - and yet important ones... I think I'll try to clean up my workplace a bit when I'm done with the tank part of the 25th regiment dio and try to fit in another light one... it's not as if the 38(t) was not a light one but that's a different field... you reasonably could consider it a medium tank by capacity in 39-41 .

Also: Horstmann suspensions always look... funny for the lack of a better term (must be the name ) and the metal coil springs really add a little something to the suspension! (though the HVSS on the M4 was also such a design, though not as obvious )

Got to agree with you Raoul, the Horstmann bogies look like old fashioned bicycles to me!

Got the primer on tonight, Tamiya grey, straight out of the rattle can as usual! Decided against using Citadel Chaos Black as I need to keep this a slight as possible to stop it turning into a black blob.



I'm also beginning to mock up a base. I have been impressed by youtube videos of people using the "blue foam" to carve rocks and bases for railway layouts. Can't find the same foam in NZ but a bit of internet sleuthing discovered a similar insulation product at our local Bunnings. Comes as a 1200x600mm board in either 20mm or 30mm thickness. At $22 per sheet it was a steal, should last me several builds....if it works

So far it carves well with a craft knife and smooths out with a wire brush and some sand paper. I've seen the edges just painted black, but I think I'll use balsa or veneer to finish it off. I've got a fist full of AK Diorama Series products to try so I'll see how it goes.

Looks great under primer. I have the BEF version, I've opened the box a few times but the suspension puts me off.

Impressive job on this little tank. The PE additions are really adding a lot.
