Panzer 1A

Post by Vincent Power »

I finished my Wespe just in time for this Group Build. Good timing I reckon ;)
Anyway, I have this little fella that I'll build.

I really wanted to do a DAK vehicle but I discovered that this kit doesn't include the necessary pieces to make a wartime one. :( Therefore, Plan B is a pre-war vehicle, perhaps with the early tri colour scheme if I can find any suitable camo profiles or decals.
Very quickly after opening the box, I had this. The superstructure is only dry fitted hence the gaps.

I have to say, the fit is wonderful and there is very little clean up required. It's been fun so far. :D

Cheers,
Vincent

Hey, you're done already...again

As for the prewar scheme, you're lucky. Each and every vehicle was supposed to have a unique appearance without repeating patterns, and there usually weren't any markings either.

Here's an example:

Probably about half way done Philipp, still lots of tiny little parts to add. :)
Thanks for the information about the camo. No markings and every tank is different, sounds good to me. :) Now to chase up the colours they used.
By the way, I can't see the picture you posted unfortunately. Could be a fault on my end?

Ohh Vincent

One of my favourite tanks 8-)

Only have 2 of these in the stash 8-)

Try this set,
Image

After much research, trial and ERROR! it will give you a good tri colour pre war camo scheme, and you have some other stuff too ;)

The 3 you need are available as singles, but usually cost nearly as much as the set

I once upon a time did this too

Anyhting you need, just ask, I have 2 feet of books for reference on the Pz I

By the way, did I mention it it is one of my favourite tanks

Great choice Vincent, and cracking progress too ;)

Thanks Steve. So the colours in that set are suitable for the pre war tanks?

I think I've seen your Panzer 1 before, looks nice. On MA perhaps?

Two feet of reference books!! I think I'll take you up on that Steve. Thanks

Cheers,
Vincent

Hi Vincent

I originally used Model colours for the pre war tri colour camo, which were a beast to air brush!

I know they are supposed to be OK to AB, but I really haven't had great success doing that!

I used Japanese uniform as the base, which is well matched by AK 753.

I brushed the green and brown, which were Flat brown and park green in the model colour range
These are matched respectively by AK 754 and AK 4013

After modulation with dry brushing, oils, chipping and pigments, they do look as close as you can get with current guesstimates and so called "colour" photos!

The other colours are also very useful not just for the Spanish Civil war, but as a good base for Russian green, Panzer grey and British Khaki too

And they do AB very well :D

A starting point for Pz I stuff

PMMS Panzer I kit reviews

It is a very good kit, just misleading box art!

Anything you need, just ask ;)

Thanks again Steve, that info is very helpful. :)

Thanks Shawn. Not much progress I'm afraid. With so many tiny parts I've put it to one side for a day or two so I can keep my sanity.

Alright, back to it. I've completed as much as I can. :) I thought I'd leave some of the subassemblies off for painting such as the PE covers, the tools and the suspension( they are just dry fitted in the photos) and I haven't started the tracks yet.
