Academy 1/72 F6F-3
As noted previously, our local Hobby shop is having a post COVID lockdown sale and this was in the bargain bin for $NZ9. The box was open and a bit crushed, but the sprues and decals all looked to be there, it wasn't till I got it home that I realised there are no instructions, hence the price drop
According to Scalemates this is a 1992 production kit that has been reboxed several times, this looks like the 2003 box. I built an Eduard F6F in 1/48 scale a while back, so already have a paint set for it from Ammo. This will be straight OOB as per the build instructions, I may replace the MG barrels with tube but no after market (as per the challenge).
The detail is a bit soft and there is a ton of flash. The clear parts are very thick, scale thickness of the canopy glass would be about 6 inches! This precludes me from building it canopy open, so I'm not going to go nuts on the cockpit. I have found a few build blogs online, so that makes up for the lack of instructions. The only other thing I will do is describe the panel lines and add a few rivets as per Gary Wickham (scalespot.com).

Nice choice Adam! I always had a soft spot for late WW2 US Navy aircraft, it's probably the shiny blue colour scheme

Wow same as Philipp's comments LOL
You have a local hobby shop
Its actually open too
None essential retail and still locked down, if there actually was one here in the UK within 20 miles!
Scalemates kit instructions
Have fun and HTH's?
Regards

Yup, when we came out of level 4 (total lockdown) to level 3 our local hobby shop reopened in a “click and collect” capacity. Then at level 2 we were allowed back in store, but customer tracing in place plus limited numbers. Now we are at level 1 so it’s all go! Hobby shops have survived in NZ despite it being cheaper to order from overseas, my local is massive and I have been buying from it since I was a kid.

So you have to build a plane huh? It does not look like you really need the instructions, with the small parts count.

Cockpit done, and engine painted.
The whole cockpit is hidden once the canopy is closed. I would have liked to model the canopy open, but with a 1993 vintage clear mould it is way too thick. Fuselage halves will be next....

Re: Academy 1/72 F6F-3/5
...and done on the build phase.
I've re-scribed all the panel lines but will give it a coat of primer and have another look. Just need to mask the canopy first...
