This is my entry for the $6.28 challenge. I got this as part of an estate of kits that was given to me.

I did a little research on ScaleMates. This seems to be a 1980 reboxing of a 1972 kit.


I don't know what an actual value is but I wouldn't pay more than $5 for it.

I haven't built an aircraft kit since 1987 if I had to guess. This will be quite an interesting challenge, especially masking the canopy.

Well, I didn't find any proper armour kit in the price bracket... I think it says a lot in itself that the one thing that makes everyone build planes is the condition "dirt cheap" - I think most of us are not as resilient to the grave violation of all that hard-learned rivet counting as you are... in short: you are a better man than me - less selectivly nitpicky certainly! .

Looking forward to the Zero Bryan, I'm certain it will look as stunningly awesome as all your builds do!

Hi all. I missed a few photo steps but the kit is so basic, you can get a good idea from the instructions. I had a few small seams to deal with on the fuselage halves so I lost some of the raised panel lines and rivets there but they are so tiny I just didn't want to bother considering how much detail is already missing on the kit - no cockpit, no undercarriage. I had to sculpt a portion of the area in front of the wind screen with epoxy putty that was lost in clean up. The wing root/fuselage join required no filler which was a surprise.

It's been hot out in the garage/paintbooth/photo studio so paint and photo progress is minimal.

I lost the kit decals which is fine as they were yellowed and off register. I tried vinyl masks for the meatballs but the rivet detail is so pronounced that the masks won't settle down. I'm looking for decal alternates but doubt they will settle down either.

Maybe use masking tape for the insignia? Should be easy to make with a compass cutter.
