ICM/Revell 1/144 Type XXIII U-Boat

Post by Philipp Gross »

Evening Gents,

confession time: I chickened out about the Heinkel and got myself something less complicated

This little floaty thing was first released by ICM in 2005. The Revell version came out in 2016.

This translates to £5.43, so hopefully still in range of this campaign.

The kit is simple, to say the least:

8 steps and we're done:

Revell provides three marking options:

Oh, and did I mention I'm alreay done with it?

I would have finished it in an evening or two, but the seam along the hull and tower was a bit of an issue to clean up. I also remade some of the finer detail, especially the ladder on the conning tower front:

The kit provides the full suite of turret equipment, but I want to depict it diving, so it's all retracted. I'm thinking of making a little base with some rocks, with the boat on top, aircraft style...

Cute little subject! I like the training flotilla colour scheme with the big yellow cross.

I was afraid you'd say that

So far I lean towards U-2363 with the big lettering on the tower.

Hi Philipp

You could always try the beached and rusted look, with very little decal left?

it does seem quite popular recently

Looks like its a go for the seascape either way

Good luck with the water, there are loads of U tube videos to help out there

Regards

So you chicken out on the Heinkel huh??? That's alright my BF 109 is no more and found it way not the trash bin.

The U Boat looks good. This seems like a good time to practice making a water base.

Sorry to hear you trashed it. What happened?

Right now my plan is to have the sub "flying" underwater, with a bit of rock on a diorama base to subtly hide a support rod...

That sounds like a great idea for a base. Cant wait to see what you do with it.

As far on the 109 I just could not get anything to line up when trying to glue together the fuselage.
