1/35 Lindberg T-55 circa 1988, rebox 1989

Post by Steve Hutchinson »

Morning/Afternoon/Evening everyone
The aim is to create an abandoned tank, sunk into a hole before being abandoned and left to rust
Image
with this sort of colour scheme
Image
Using 4Bo Russian green and a desert sand like a well washed off winter white wash.
The kit is old, 1988 original moulds in a hard brittle green plastic.
There will be no stowage and everything that can be removed has gone, tools, fuel tanks etc.
Only 4 starfish wheels left, as they were taken for my ""Forgotten Campaign"" GB T34/85, so I shall use 6 solid dish T34 wheels to replace the missing ones.

The Lindberg kit was always just a donor kit for wheels at £15 delivered, it was the cheapest set of starfish wheels I could find.
The MiniArt set, at the time were all £20 + P&P.
It will be a quick build and plenty of NightShift style plate texturing as it has sat for years just "melting" back into the desert!.
More soon?
Hopefully!
Regards

Nice choice Steve! A stripped and battered wreck is definitely the best option for that old kit

Too right Philipp ;)
I have some new products to try for the rusting which have had some really good reviews on You Tube.
I am getting the ""texturing" done as there really isn't too much to build.
The AFV T34 wheels will need a little fettling to fit, but hopefully a little more over the Super hot weekend from hell
We are expecting temperatures in the high 30's C :o
Possibly breaking the all time record for July of 38.8C
So definitely NO painting yet, though the base will require so chopping 8-)
And as ever, I have plenty of figures to build and "never" get painted
More soon?

Enjoy with this antics. :D
If memory serves this was the very first model kit of a T-55 in plastic. Your project sounds interesting.

Morning/Afternoon/Evening chaps
It feels old Olivier!
So, a quick and "dirty" build
Everything has been stripped off and the fenders reduced with no mudguards
All the flat horizontal plates have been left smooth
The sides have had a single coat of thin glue and been textured with a stiff brush
The front glacis and rear plate have had a double coat of thin glue and texturing.
The turret has been textured with filler thinned with glue and textured with a stiff brush.
The grab rails have been replaced with wire
the T34 dish wheels will now fit the axles, in the centre 3 positions.

Next is a base as the weather isn't currently suitable even for priming!

Nice texture Steve. Is it the new Ammo rust sets you are using?
